Japan Bizarre Festival “Festival to say bad-mouth”
The Bizarre Festival “Festival to say bad-mouth” is held once a year (3rd Sunday in December) at Mt. Atago in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
There are 13 white costumes walking behind the priest, called “tengu”.
That is because there is a legend that 13 “tengu” lived in this mountain long ago.
Walk in a line from the foot of the mountain to the main hall of the shrine at the top of Mt. Atago.
There are 13 small shrines in between, and each shrine is offered an offering.
Finally, I pray at the main shrine “haiden”.
- “Haiden” is the place of worship in front of the main shrine
The main shrine is not open to the general public.
I walk while shouting “bad-mouth” while climbing the mountain.
It is mainly spectators who shout bad-mouth
It’s a good idea to complain and add “Bakayaro” at the end.
“Bakayaro” is difficult to translate into English, but if you look it up, will it be “idiot” or “damn it”?
It’s not a very good word.
However, the dissatisfaction I mentioned earlier is comical and I do not say anything serious.
For example
“Raise more pocket money, stupid”, “Isn’t it peeled off, stupid”, etc.
Add “Bakayaro” after something that makes you laugh when you hear it.
By the way, in Japan, the salary is transferred to the bank and managed by the wife, and many husbands have a pocket money system.
What is a tengu?
